2024

This year saw a change in leadership of the band, as Ben decided to move away from conducting us. We were very happy that the wife of one of our players agreed to have a go at the MD role. What a success that was! Bev led us throughout the year with bucket loads of enthusiasm and talent, despite not having been in charge of a brass band before (although she does have a very impressive musical pedigree!).

Under the baton of Bev the band played a summer concert at Redhill Church, where the band and audience were treated to a vocal and cornet duet performed by Bev and Andy, several concerts at The Hawthorns in Clevedon and at Sandford Station, with a varied and lively programme throughout.

The Christmas season saw the band at it's busiest, taking on more carolling engagements than ever before, and subsequently raising a very respectable amount of money for the nominated charity of the year, Children's Hospice South West.

In terms of numbers, the band has welcomed several new players this year - Darren and Claire on cornet, Caroline on baritone, Barry on bass, and Gareth moved to horn. This has made a tremendous difference to the sound of the band, which is fabulous.

Sadly though, at the end of the year Bev announced that she would be leaving the band to persue her own saxophone playing adventures elsewhere, and Andy who has been principal cornet and librarian for 15 years also retired from the band. Both will be sadly missed, but we wish them all the best for the future.
