The past year
The end of 2022 saw the band busy as usual, playing lots of carols throughout December! We thoroughly enjoyed continuing the tradition of playing at a lovely carol service in Christ Church in Redhill. The band is always assured of a very warm welcome from the church and it's congregation and it is a lovely way to get into the Christmassy mood! The also traditional standing outside of a supermarket playing carols is lovely too, but can be a bit of a test on a particularly chilly day!
This year has seen the band playing a number of concerts in the area.
Burnham on Sea - we played a lovely St George's Day concert for the Burnham PALS. The theme for the concert was St George's Day, and the choice of music echoed this as much as possible, ending of course with a rousing rendition of Pomp and Circumstance. The band was invited to share in a lovely homemade buffet afterwards which really made for a lovely evening.
Clevedon - The Hawthorns hosted the band on 2 occasions this year for a summer and a winter concert. The summer concert featured solo performances by Colin on Flugel, playing Under the Boardwalk, and Reg on euphonium playing My Grandfather's Clock. Both solos were very well recieved. The winter concert featured a solo number from our Bb bass player, Peter who played The Ploughboy, and even dressed appropriately for the piece with binder twine around his trousers! Again, this performance was very well recieved and much appreciated.
The band already has some plans for next year, including further concerts at The Hawthorns and at Sandford Station retirement village.
